Mannion Clan Historical Trail

The Mannion Clan Association, Gaeilge Loch Riach and Galway County Council have developed the country's first bilingual digital Story Map of the Mannion Clan Historical Trail which takes you on a journey through the important and historic places in East Galway associated with the Clann Uí Mhainnín.

Drawing on a variety of medieval sources such as Gaelic annals and genealogies, ecclesiastical records, as well as the poetry and prose of the bards, the following StoryMap paints a vivid picture of the origins of the Mannion Clan, and of their traditional role as kings, warriors and chieftains in the native lands of the Soghain People of East Galway. This project is one of a number of initiatives being undertaken by the Mannion Clan Association, whose primary objective is to preserve, promote and perpetuate the unique history and cultural and archaeological heritage of this ancient people of East Galway.

The StoryMap features 21 sites with heritage of interest. We would love to share this long and fascinating history of the Clann Uí Mannín with you. We invite you to explore the StoryMap and uncover the heritage of the Mannion Clan and East Galway.
